Artist Sungsoo Kim – Melancholy Portraits

A beautiful series of melancholy portraits created by South Korean artist Sungsoo Kim.

Sungsoo Kim was born in 1969 in Busan, South Korea. Today the artist lives and works in Seoul. The portraits shown in this article are all part of the Melancholy series, which were created in different years using oil and acrylic on canvas. Each artwork has been created in a quite pale and monotone color scheme. Only the eyes were painted with lots of shine. This effect creates a particularly strong expressiveness. The eyes act like a gateway to the soul, while all physical things around seem to be pale and indifferent.

The South Korean artist is represented by Gallery Skape in Seoul. Sungsoo Kim’s artworks were shown in numerous group and solo exhibitions around Korea, China, and several European cities such as London, Paris, Amsterdam, etc. For additional information on this talented South Korea artist, just follow this link.
