Graphic design and rebranding by Bruce Mau Design for the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA).
After a successful collaboration with Bruce Mau Design on the existing brand identity 5 years ago, the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) returned to the studio for a refresh.
During the last years, UCCA had undergone many changes and restructurings including new museums outside Beijing, an expansion to retail and educational projects as well as the architectural transformation of the flagship area by the OMA.
BMD’s goal was to create a new identity that visualizes more clarity and consistency to UCCA while improving the balance between Chinese and English characters. On the other hand, the new graphic design and typography concept retains the spirit of the previous UCCA logo with the addition of new design elements inspired by traditional Chinese motifs. The refreshed corporate identity and brand guidelines offer more flexibility while reflecting the center’s mission to bring Chinese contemporary art into a global dialogue.
