Eyes on German artist Tobias Kroeger and his abstract portraits.
Tobias Kroeger is a German artist who lives and works in his birth town of Bremen, Germany. In 1997 he started to work as a graphic and graffiti artist. His work was mainly inspired by New York City’s graffiti scene. In 2013, his main objective changed from graphics and large murals to contemporary abstract art on canvas. Since that time he creates fictional portraits using traditional painting techniques with oil or acrylic. His abstract portraits are composed of many fragments. We can see them as pictorial metaphors for data or machine parts. With his colorful compositions, Tobias Kroeger visualizes what it means to be human in today’s digital world. He describes his pictures as explorations of the unknown. Tobias Kroeger bridges the gap between graphic, graffiti, and fine art. All the graphic elements in his portraits act like symbols of unfollowed dreams or the idea of heteronomy in today’s society.
