The Other Side of Now: new artworks by Jeffrey Chong Wang will be on display at a solo show at Toronto’s Gallery House.
On display from March 7 – April 3, 2020, Toronto’s Gallery House will present a series of new paintings by artist Jeffrey Chong Wang in an upcoming solo show named ‘The Other Side of Now’.
Driven by emotions and inspired by personal memories, Jeffrey Chong Wangs’ artworks demonstrate his understanding and interpretation of life experiences as well as the world that surrounds us. The artist lives in Canada since 1999. However, the time he spent growing up in native China has been an important influence on his work. Utilizing portraits of Wang’s family members at different ages as well as different locations in China, the artworks can be considered dreamlike recalls from his past.
Using self-portraits in many different ways, the artworks reflect his cultural upbringing, personal feelings, and certain experiences. The artist uses the canvas as a stage to place characters in various landscapes. His artworks respond to the imbalance he emotionally feels of himself and the outside world. Jeffrey Chong Wang uses classical concepts and traditional techniques to reflect the history of Western oil painting techniques but also show contemporary themes of Eastern culture.
