The Scale of Things, a new book designed by Praline.

Praline, a London, UK based creative agency was commissioned to design the new book ‘The Scale of Things’, by Mike Fairbrass and David Tanguy. Published by Quadrille, the book combines concepts and design to explore the science of scale. While illuminating complex sociological issues of power and consumption, The Scale of Things brings together facts and figures in a well-illustrated visual way.

“The Sun is 93,000,000 miles from Earth, a distance tough to consider as a number. If we use scale, the Sun becomes a grapefruit, the Earth a grain of sand and the distance between the two a London bus – suddenly, it fits in your head.

The design of The Scale of Things is accessible and joyful, helping the reader instantly grasp the ideas. The graphics are integral to understanding the statements: a mix of information graphics, expressive typography and illustrations, they are effective visual representations of somewhat baffling concepts.

From the deepest ocean trench to a T. Rex’s shoe size, The Scale of Things takes you beyond distance to explore facts and phenomena translated into a new graphic visual style, embracing science, space, economics, politics, geography, and technology – all while illuminating complex sociological issues of power and consumption.” – Praline
