Barbershop Identity by Studio Memela

Barbierattoo, a classy barbershop identity.

Guadalajara, Mexico based Memela studio works in the fields of graphic design, advertising, and branding. They were asked to develop an extensive branding concept for barbershop Barbierattoo. In addition to haircuts for gentlemen, Barbierattoo offers the service of tattoos to its customers.

Barbierattoo has its origin in the legend of Don Luciano and Tony Barbierato , father and son from a Venetian family dedicated to the barbershop business. After migrating to Mexico in 1933, Luciano started working as a barber. His son Tony traveled to the U.S. and became a professional tattoo artist. After several years, Tony returned to Mexico to open a business with his father Luciano. The result is “Barbierattoo”, a business dedicated to quality haircuts and tattoos.

Memela’s brief was to create a new barbershop identity for the old business that refers to the classy style of the 1940s. The logotype consists of a custom made italic script typeface that offers a nice vintage appearance. The set of cut mold stationery is reminiscent of the abstract form of a razor blade. Memela’s design team has created a beautiful brand identity that captures the spirit and aesthetics of good old barbershops.
