To Tarry in Prayer/To Terri in Prayer, an exhibition of new paintings and works on paper by artist Brittney Leeanne Williams at contemporary art gallery Zevitas Marcus.

On view from September 7 – October 26, 2019, gallery Zevitas Marcus in Los Angeles, CA will present new paintings and works on paper by artist Brittney Leeanne Williams.

This new body of work by Brittney Leeanne Williams draws on the biblical Book of Ruth in order to explore the mother-daughter relationship. While these works reference the characters of Naomi and Ruth, the metaphysical red figures aren’t meant to portray specific individuals, rather, they speak to a collective experience—an experience of womanhood and of Blackness. After featuring Brittney Leeanne Williams in the 2018 summer exhibition ‘Cosmic Traffic Jam’, Zevitas Marcus exhibited Williams’ work at UNTITLED, ART Miami Beach, and finally her first solo exhibition with the gallery.
