Eyes on mixed media artist Shila Khatami and her unique artworks.
Shila Khatami was born in 1976 in Saarbrücken, Germany. From 1997 – 1999, she studied Fine Arts at Akademie der Bildenden Künste München, followed by her Fine Arts studies at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf where she graduated in 2004. Shila Khatami’s art is characterized by a variety of influences. Not only on closer inspection you will find references from pop cultural elements. The artist loves to experiment with different materials, forms, and techniques. Shila Khatami often uses random objects found in hardware stores. As the base for her artworks, she uses materials such as aluminum, hardboard, pegboards or even isolation foam. As varied as the choice of materials, as diverse and unique is her painting process. Khatami often works with a variety of unconventional tools such as masking tape or rubber bands. By rolling, dripping, and scoring, the artist creates a diversity of abstract and geometric shapes.
