The Hopetoun Avenue House by B.E Architecture

Hopetoun Avenue – The renovation of a home in Vaucluse, a suburb of Sydney, Australia.

The team of B.E Architecture designed the Hopetoun Avenue house, a home that offers an intentional contrast to the existing sandstone house. The new designed extension emerges from the canopy with an integrated large gum tree.

The covered outdoor area is built around the old tree, while timber-clad columns recede into the background and a glazing facade allows a great view as well as a seamless transition to the planted courtyard.

The upper level of the house sits literally in the branches of the gum tree. This space seems to float above the bottom structure overlooking views to the Sydney Harbour. The projecting canopy includes an underground parking garage as well as a large suspended pool.
