The skilled team of noa* (network of architecture) designed “Ötzi Peak 3251m”, a new observation deck on the Schnals Valley Glacier.
There is something majestic about this place. Directly at the top of the Schnals Valley Glacier ridge, one can enjoy views across Italy’s impressive alpine landscape and Austria is literally around the corner. In this unique location, only fate decides whether a drop of glacier water will make its way towards the Mediterranean or the Black Sea.
The amazing views of snow-covered mountains make time standstill. Both hikers and skiers visit the peak to experience nature at its fullest. In order to enable visitors planning a more extended stay, as well as day-seizing mountain nomads, to experience not only the beautiful ride to the mountain station but also to get to know the unique history of this alpine wonderland, the team of noa* designed a fascinating architectural structure: “Ötzi Peak 3251m”. Feel free to read more below the following image.
The new viewing platform has been developed based on a light structure made of Corten steel. This material gives a modern touch to the design and blends in with the environment perfectly. Noa’s architectural design incorporates the preexisting summit cross The platform only touches the ground where there is a static necessity. This way, the platform creates a detached, almost floating experience. Below you can find a few more images of the project.
