The Museum of Broken Relationships

Graphic design and branding by New York City based SAVVY STUDIO for the Museum of Broken Relationships.

The Museum of Broken Relationships originally started as a temporary exhibition but in 2016, the show got its permanent residence in Los Angeles – “the city of dreams and broken hearts.” This location indicates perfectly the museum’s theme with all its diversity. This unique museum showcases a wide range of different items. Each one seems to tell a personal story of a broken relationship. All the pieces allow the owners to express their unique story. Each item and the story behind is full of nostalgia and unforgettable memories.

Some exhibition pieces – The Museum of Broken Relationships showcases a variety of different items. Each of them is telling a personal story of a broken relationship.

New York City based Savvy Studio was asked to develop a suitable brand identity that reflects the uniqueness as well as the personal touch of the museum. Their aim was to create a visual vocabulary based on three brand values: familiarity, basic emotions, and a high aesthetic value. Depending on the cultural and local context, Savvy Studio has created a highly aesthetic museum identity. The logotype is based on a broken cycle symbolizing the feeling of being broken and out of place. All communication materials have been designed using desaturated colors to convey a sense of nostalgia and intimacy.
