The Brake House in New Zealand by Ron Sang

Award Winning Brake House in New Zealand.

Architect Ron Sang designed this beautiful house for the famous New Zealand photographer Brian Brake in 1977. The architecture of the house was honored with the NZIA Enduring Architectural Award in 2001. Situated on a hillside and surrounded by a natural bush setting, the Brake House offers a breathtaking view with a distant outlook to the city. The complete residence is designed like a pavilion with spacious rooms that can be screened off or opened up. Ron Sang used cedar to create a house that fits perfectly to the wooded environment.
Inside the house you can find straightforward and clear forms with different niches and spaces for Brian Brake’s collection of art and furniture.
