A Blair Atholl house in Johannesburg, South Africa by Werner van der Meulen of Nico van der Meulen Architects.
Werner van der Meulen of the highly acclaimed Nico van der Meulen Architects was responsible for the design of this beautiful Blair Atholl house in Johannesburg, South Africa.
He designed a luxurious double storey home with the inviting charm of a contemporary farmhouse. The plot is situated within a secluded golf estate located between the cities of Pretoria and Johannesburg, South Africa. With unrestricted views of the landscape, this house is totally free from high boundary walls and electric fencing. The contemporary family home combines the simplicity of modern architecture and smooth surfaces with the coarse structures of a rough stone wall and a rooftop shape, which is reminiscent of a farmhouse.
A double volume entrance area is partially surrounded by glass and bounded by two solid timber garages on both sides. The interior of the house is characterized by open plan spaces with a spacious living area, dining room, kitchen, and terrace with pool – all in close proximity to each other. A natural stone cladded wall inside the house forms the perfect frame for the floating timber staircase, while a bridge with glass balustrade connects the two wings of this luxurious home. All rooms are organized around the double volume living space, which acts as a central point of the house.
The team of M Square Lifestyle Design was commissioned for the interior design. With modern furniture and selected design objects, they have created a warm and comfortable atmosphere caused by the mix of clean lines and natural materials.
