The Park of Memories embraces the 21st century with the Time Trip mobile app. This innovative tool transforms your smartphone into a time machine, guiding you through Aš’s turbulent past with interactive points scattered throughout the park. It’s education and entertainment rolled into one!

From Bustling City to Tranquil Forest

As you wander through the park, the landscape subtly mirrors the city’s historical timeline. The urbanized space near Goethe’s Square gradually transitions into a serene forest park on Okružní Street. This clever design isn’t just aesthetic; it reflects the city’s architectural and botanical evolution.

Honoring the Lost

The park acknowledges a dark chapter in Aš’s history – the destruction of its largest cemetery in the 1970s. The Historical Park serves as a poignant memorial, featuring a granite block etched with the loss of cultural and historical value. This flat memorial, with its collection of stone blocks for candles, provides a space for quiet reflection, a place where residents and visitors from neighboring Germany can remember their ancestors.

Unearthing the Past

The restoration of the city’s oldest stone bridge, connecting the old and new parts of the Lutheran cemetery, is another testament to Aš’s commitment to its past. The project’s archaeological survey unearthed a treasure trove of history – old graves, human remains, and remnants of buildings. This meticulous care for historical artifacts underscores the city’s deep respect for its roots.

A Bridge Through Time

A unique footbridge weaves its way through the park, creating a parallel path for exploration. This architectural marvel blends a central steel structure with a wooden exterior, resulting in a subtle yet striking presence. The footbridge connects seamlessly with wooden platforms and walkways, all carefully designed to avoid disturbing the original cemetery grounds.

Sustainable Design

The Park of Memories isn’t just about remembering the past; it has a keen eye on the future. All surfaces have been meticulously crafted to maximize water absorption. This eco-friendly design plays a crucial role in reducing flood risks and improving the city’s water cycle.

So, if you find yourself in Aš, take a stroll through the Park of Memories. It’s a place where the past comes alive, a testament to a city that embraces its history while forging a sustainable future.
