Geometric contemporary paintings by artist Daan Roukens from the series ‘I Forgot To Say Stop On Our Way Home & Checkmate’.

Widely known for his diverse and colorful abstract self-portraits, Daan Roukens is a Dutch visual artist. He mostly portrays his thoughts in an abstract way and therewith reflects his daily life.

With ‘I Forgot To Say Stop On Our Way Home & Checkmate’, Daan Roukens continues his long search for the experience of the “in-between”. It’s like a creative journey between high and low contrast, between circles and squares, and between hand-painted surfaces and those with adhesive tape. In this new body of work, the Dutch artist refers to a moment when you lose control while moving. At the same time, these geometric abstract paintings refer to the unpredictability and finality of the painting process. It’s like getting to a point where you cannot continue even if that is your intention.
