Malahat Speakeasy & Mixology – Bar Identity by Bienal

A nostalgic cocktail bar identity developed by agency Bienal for Malahat Speakeasy & Mixology.

The team of Mexican agency Bienal teamed up with Punto Arquitectónico in order to design a consistent visual experience, where the brand identity and the environment form a perfect union.

They were tasked to create a suitable brand identity for Malahat Speakeasy & Mixology, a cocktail bar located in downtown Mérida, Mexico. The bar is a place where walls are covered with classic and exclusive liquors and smooth Jazz music is playing in the background. Only a few candles provide the necessary light.

Agency Bienal developed a bar identity which plays with various elements ranging from seafaring nostalgia to rum smuggling romance. The name “Malahat” refers to an old smuggling boat during the Prohibition. Bienal decided to create a handwritten logotype. In addition, they used several nostalgic elements such as bottles and bubbles, a ship and various seafaring symbols. All the symbols and illustrations were used along the entire brand identity.
