The Hair Highway project by Studio Swine is inspired by the 1930s deco style of Shanghai and the fascination of the ancient Silk Road which connected the East with the West. Traders used this road to transport silk as well as rare and precious goods. Studio Swine produced a unique series of exquisite design objects and beauty accessories made up from human hair and a natural resin. The result of this combination is a composite material that offers a sustainable alternative to conventional materials consisting of diminishing natural resources. Studio Swine has created a material that provides the aesthetics of polished horn or exotic hardwoods.
