‘Gymnasium’ is an ongoing series of paintings by Thenjiwe Niki Nkosi. Starting in 2012, the series documents the simple aesthetics of gymnastics. Using oil paints on canvas, the paintings are characterized by a minimalist style and a reduced color palette. Not painting faces in every character creates a very homogeneous effect in all artworks.
