Matthew Woodson was born in the early 1980s. After his graduation at the School of The Art Institute of Chicago in 2006, he was hired by Margeotes, Fertitta & Partners New York to create a series of illustrations for the Perry Ellis Fall/Winter campaign in 2006. That was the initial start of his career as a professional freelance illustrator.
