TT Firs Neue, a contemporary reincarnation of the good old Scandinavian TT Firs sans-serif typeface.
Designed by Ivan Gladkikh, Philipp Nurullin, and the TypeType team, TT Firs Neue is a modern rework of the original TT Firs sans-serif typeface. While updating the old typeface, the designers realized that the wide range of innovations and the great number of additional features deserve a full-fledged new release, and thus they came up with TT Firs Neue. The revised family comes with an additional variable version that allows you to select and set up any custom weight of letters ranging from Thin to Black. What else has changed you might ask and we can say, it’s actually a lot! The design team has fully updated the proportions of letters. Furthermore, TT Firs Neue is based on a completely new formula for the interpolation of weights. Even the basic thicknesses of the strokes have been adjusted that all of the 18 fonts are now following a more uniform system. They also created a new set of Italics and made several changes directly to the style of the typeface and its letters, which results in a fresher yet cleaner look. Read more below.
While the old family was primarily made for display use, the new version is suited to a broader scope of use including any form of body text and on the web. TT Firs Neue has received a complex set of OpenType features including small caps (for Latin and Cyrillic alphabets), a set of stylistic alternates, a large number of original ligatures (in addition to the standard ligatures), etc. These are just a few of the new adjustments.
