Villa CP, a restored old Catalan farmhouse in Girona, Spain.
The Barcelona based team of ZEST Architecture was responsible for the restoration of an old Catalan farmhouse. The result of this restoration project is Villa CP, a contemporary house created inside an old stone structure.
The old farmhouse was in bad condition and most parts of the existing stone walls had to be rebuilt. Villa CP lies close to a national park with breathtaking views towards the Mediterranean landscape. To retain the character of the old farmhouse as much as possible, ZEST Architecture decided to use mainly ecological materials and techniques. The water of the natural pool is filtered by plants and gravel, while the insulation of the pool is made with cork from the region. Clay and stray panels where used for the interior and heating system to ensure cooling through a geothermal installation.
The old charm of this restored farmhouse is still alive. It creates a successful juxtaposition with all the new materials such as corten steel, wood, and clay.
