The New Kunsthalle Mannheim”, published by Kunsthalle Mannheim – the book is a collaboration of the Kunsthalle team, Daniel Lukac and Rainer Diehl from studio h7photo.com, visual artist Ann Christin Schuhmacher, the publishing house Edition Panorama and vonfreyhold visual communication.
Peter von Freyhold, a German graphic designer, art director, and founder of the multidisciplinary design studio ‘vonfreyhold visual communication’, recently suggested me to check out one of his latest design projects. “A City Within the City. The New Kunsthalle Mannheim.” is a book that documents the entire construction process of the currently largest new museum building in Germany. Rainer Diehl and Daniel Lukac, two local photographers, have captured the three-year-long process. The book presents selected images along with related editorials and interviews.
The book design combines a versatile layout with architectural elements of the building, while the metallic embossing on the cover reflects the facade of the museum and the raw cardboard refers to the grey concrete panels. The colors red, blue, and yellow symbolize the artworks, which will be presented in the building after its completion. Full credits can be found at the end of the article.
