‘Carved in Mayhem’ was directed by Dan DiFelice, a New York City based filmmaker and collaborator with Neighborhood Film Company. With an amazing cinematography by Khalid Mohtaseb and visual effects by Framestore, the film is telling the true story of Johnny “Bang” Reilly, a 52-year-old formerly homeless addict who defied all odds to become an amazing MMA fighter, poet, and activist. Carved in Mayhem is an amazing short film that can be described as a “poetic depiction of one man’s unique journey.” Narrated by Johnny “Bang” Reilly himself, Carved in Mayhem tells us about his his search for peace and truth. Johnny poetically tells about the stony path from hate to gratitude. Caused by a broken home, Johnny became a homeless. Every single day, he had to fight against all odds, poverty, drug addiction, and his inner demons. His life was dominated by hate and blind destructiveness. With a variety of impressive sequences in black and white as well as Johnny’s narratives, Carved in Mayhem is an amazing poetic depiction of his fight away from the margins of society to a life full of gratitude.
