Illustrator Mateusz Napieralski just sent us his latest personal illustration project called “Postcards from Airports”.

Mateusz Napieralski is a Polish illustrator currently based in Canada. He just launched a personal project titled “Postcards from Airports”. It’s a series of postcards inspired by his previous trips and reflecting on them while sitting at airports. “While we can’t quite travel as freely yet due to the pandemic, perhaps traveling through pixels is the next best thing right now,” says Mateusz.

“This concrete city radiated with freedom, liberty, and appreciation for individuality.” The prominent grayness of brutalist architecture provided a perfect background to elevate any sport of color. I could not help but look at Berlin through the lens of Bauhaus and pay attention to design, sharp edges, and structured geometry that was overwhelming me with its beauty.”
Cracow, illustration by Mateusz Napieralski
“I’d argue that Cracow is one of the most romantic cities on the map of Poland. Filled with tradition, appreciation for its history, Cracow felt like a beautifully maintained postcard from the past that stepped into. This city manages to blend its past with contemporary arts and culture in a way that elevates and highlights both at the same time.”

“As soon as I landed in Barcelona, I felt welcomed. I was greeted by a large mural by Miró at the airport. Its primary colors formed a solid foundation for everything else I’d experience during my trip. I was the most eager tourist in the crowd to explore the architecture of Gaudi, the richness of Spanish culture, its diverse parks, and green areas.”
Vancouver, illustration by Mateusz Napieralski
“Vancouver struck me with a very considered way of integrating nature into its urban landscape. I was in awe of greenery peeking from every corner of the city. Locals were fully embracing the outdoors and spending time on bikes, reading books in parks, and enjoying their leisure time in-one with nature. Gastown, its small boutiques and carefully curated displays stole my heart, not to mention the best coffee and donuts in town.”
Oslo, illustration by Mateusz Napieralski
“I visited Oslo during winter. I never experienced such cold temperatures before. Oslo felt very spacious, it was filled with shades of deep blues and purples. It was a perfect canvas to spot hundreds of white seagulls circling above us. The Opera House and Vigeland Sculpture Park were my personal highlights. After a day of exploration, nothing felt more satisfying than a cup of hot chocolate by the fireplace.”
Victoria, illustration by Mateusz Napieralski
“When I arrived in Victoria for the first time, I was greeted by all shades of green and the hot sun shining through the leaves and flowers. This coastal city taught me to appreciate gardens, flowers, and pay more attention to the tiniest life forms that can be found in nature. Victoria was filled with tourists and students who were embracing their historical scenery. One of my favorite memories is walking along the beach and watching all the dogs with their owners enjoying their evening walk.”
