The Wind Series.
The Ukrainian fine arts and fashion photographer Katya Latanskaya made this shooting in the summer of 2013. The day of the shooting was unusually cold and Katya Latanskaya tried to reflect the coolness and freshness of the air as well as to emphasize the youth and innocence of the model. The inspiration for this fashion shooting comes from Francoise Sagan’s book “Hello, Sadness”. Katya Latanskaya asked the stylist to choose looks, which create the character of a french girl on vacation somewhere on the coast.
They chose a windy and foggy day to shoot in the old town district. The photographer tried to capture the dynamics of the air in the photos. Multiple transparent black scarves, which fluttered around the model mediate the dynamics of the wind and created the illusion of dancing. At the same time, it conveys a touch of drama, anguish and the sharpness of the moment. Usually, Katya Latanskaya takes pictures as an art piece and her style is a mix of digital and traditional techniques. In this case she wanted to convey a watercolor effect to reflect strength and weightlessness of the images. Colors, fabrics, clouds, and smoke are layered on each other – creating a smoky translucent halos around the girl’s body.
