Trade Gothic: the classic sans-serif font family for advertising and multimedia projects.

Our font reviews are not just about the latest releases but to be honest, the past few months we mostly wrote a lot about novelties. Hence, here comes one of our all-time favorites, Trade Gothic. Type designer Jackson Burke started to work on Trade Gothic in 1948. While he was the director of type development for Mergenthaler-Linotype in the USA, he added more waits and styles to the family until 1960. Since then, Trade Gothic was frequently used in popular advertising and multimedia campaigns often mixed with roman text fonts. In addition, its condensed styles could often be seen as headlines in numerous newspapers. As most gothic typefaces from this time, Trade Gothic’s letters offer a more irregular style than many others, especially the ones that came later like Helvetica. That’s why it creates a more characteristic effect. The complete family consists of 26 styles including oblique versions for each weight and width.
