Unique and surreal underwater fine art photography by Susanna Majuri.
Finnish fine art photographer Susanna Majuri was born in Helsinki in 1978. Her affinity for water is not to be overlooked, but that’s not all. In her photographs, she wants to capture deeply emotional scenes based on hidden feelings such as the fear of losing someone you love or unbearable loneliness. Susanna Majuri has graduated from Turku Art Academy in 2004 and has received her master’s degree in photography from University of Art and Design in Helsinki. Find more information below.
Susanna Majuri mainly captures female models just below the water surface. She creates mystical environments by installing images of diverse landscapes as backdrops at the bottom of a pool. When her models dive into the water they seem to become one with scenery in the background. They float like ghosts or fairies through the landscape. In some cases, they also seem to interact with the environment. Her work skillfully blends fiction with the real world.
The Finnish photographer has had a series of international exhibitions in cities like New York, Tokyo, and a variety of places in Europe. In 2005, she has won the photographers prize Gras Savoye Award in Arles, France. She recently published ‘Sense Of Water’ – her first and highly anticipated photo book, which is available here.
