Plants on a Space Flight by Japanese Artist Azuma Makoto

Plants in Space, an exobiotanica – botanical space mission by Japanese artist Azuma Makoto and his crew.

These so surreal-looking photos of plants in space were taken during a botanical space mission realized by Japanase artist Azuma Makoto and his team. In the Black Rock Desert of Nevada, the team launch two objects (including a bonsai tree and an arrangement of different flowers) into space. The plants were lifted off to space with the use of special helium balloons.

These pictures are so fascinating and somehow unrealistic at the same time – plants grown on earth within the harsh conditions at an attitude of 30,000 meters and -50 degrees Celsius. If you want to know more about the Japanese artist Azuma Makoto or this project, then check out: azumamakoto.com
