“Moonlight”, a picturesque series of nocturnal landscapes captured by London based photographer Paul Thompson.
Born in 1977, Paul Thompson is a British born photographer. After studying photography at Newcastle Art & Design College, he moved to London where he assisted numerous leading photographers before setting up his own studio in 2005. In addition to a wide range of commissioned projects, Paul Thompson loves to work on personal projects. More below.
For about two years, Paul Thompson has taken numerous shots of landscapes and seascapes. His ‘Moonlight’ series is truly pushing the boundaries of night photography. The remarkable collection of long exposure photographs includes picturesque sceneries where light, clouds, and water seemingly melt together. Over the process of a two hour exposure, clouds and tide can change dramatically, which allows him to document the interaction of time and movement. All pictures of the series were shot with a large-format film camera. Which means, each scene only gets one chance. The photographer can hardly see anything and most settings are based on instinct and fundamentally. Paul Thompson is fascinated by the simple creation of a unique picture, which is unable to be repeated.
A small selection of images taken from his ‘Moonlight’ series can be found below. For those of you who want to see more of his stunning long exposure photographs, please have a look at his website: www.paulthompsonstudio.com
