Minimalist black and white photography by Moisés Rodríguez.
Moisés Rodríguez is a street photographer who lives in Mexico City. He prefers to produce reduced images with a clear focus on specific details. Always captured with a strong contrast of black and white, his work conveys a minimalist look. His favorite spots are the streets of the city, different places, backyards, shopping centers, stairs, escalators, subway stations, and many more. The intended minimalism in his pictures creates a more intense scenery. Our perception focuses on individual areas. This effect is reinforced by the strong contrast of black and white. His photographs provoke the viewer’s imagination to build a fictional story behind a scene. Our urban surroundings are full of people but Moisés Rodríguez focuses on the one who walks alone the streets. On their way home, to work or wherever they want to go, they interact with their environment unconsciously. Just for a brief moment they become a part of the scenery. The Mexican photographer captures this transient moment. But that’s not all, he reinforces this special moment due to certain perspectives as well as the strong contrast of black and white, which creates an interplay between positive and negative space.
Moisés Rodríguez says his inspiration in black and white comes from movies such as Citizen Kane, Psycho, and The Exterminating Angel. Below you can find a few examples of his photographic work.
