A modern home by Johnsen Schmaling Architects in a forest at Lake Michigan.
The team of Johnsen Schmaling Architects has completed this beautiful home on the wooded eastern shore of Wisconsin’s Door County, a peninsula on Lake Michigan. The house has been designed for a graphic designer and her husband. With a sense of modern elegance, the couple asked for a home that offers clear lines and a sophisticated living comfort. Inspired by the wooded surroundings, the team of Johnsen Schmaling Architects decided to use natural materials for all exterior walls. They used a mix of materials such as charred and varnished clear cedar in combination with dark-anodized aluminum and glass.
The dense forest provides a maximum of privacy. A paved terrace is connected to the main living area and a green roof is accessible from the bedroom on the upper level of the house. Large windows from the ceiling down to the ground provide natural light throughout the entire house while offering a great view of the wooded surroundings. The hanging fireplace is a striking feature of the living space. A white staircase with vertical rods leads from the living area up to the bedroom.
