Silence, loneliness, and minimalism in Tokyo’s urban spaces captured in black and white by Japanese photographer Hiroharu Matsumoto.
Born in 1965, Hiroharu Matsumoto is a Tokyo-based photographer who specializes in dramatic black and white images of his urban environment. Despite living in the world’s largest metropolitan area, Hiroharu Matsumoto doesn’t want to show the stereotypical images of a vibrant, bustling city. His aim is to explore the unique loneliness of Tokyo’s residents. With a focus on minimalist compositions, he captures the loneliness in artificial environments. His photographs have something quiet, an almost thoughtful mood.
