American Artist Brice Marden

Paintings by American artist Brice Marden.

Eyes on legendary American artist Brice Marden.

For many decades, Brice Marden’s name is an integral part America’s artist scene. He was born in Bronxville, NY in 1938. In 1963, Brice Marden received an MFA from the Yale School of Art and Architecture. It was this time in Yale that shaped his artistic style and brought him to rectangular forms as well as an individualized color palette. Over the course of Brice Marden’s long career, many influences shaped his artistic development. Especially his extensive travels have a strong influence on the development of his work. Asia’s art and culture as well as the Greek island of Hydra influenced his extensive use of different colors. Using rectangular shapes or intricate lines in different colors, Brice Marden’s abstract paintings seem to reinterpret both the landscape and the figure. From strictures of Minimalism to a strong connection with the Abstract Expressionist movement, his work offers diverse forms of expression.

In 2006, Brice Marden has been honored with a retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Later, the show traveled to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art as well as the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin. Below you can see some fine samples of his beautiful work. The artist is represented by Matthew Marks Gallery, you can find more information on their website.
