Eyes on American artist Palma Blank.
Palma Blank is a Brooklyn based artist. She was born in 1979 in Norwalk, CT. Palma Blank received an MFA from Yale University, New Haven, CT and a BFA from Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI. Besides her main profession as an artist, she works as graphic designer and new media strategist. Palma Blank’s paintings have been shown in several exhibitions around New York City. She uses striking color combinations in strategic compositions to create artworks that provide perceptual experiences of charged energy.
Her latest paintings are characterized by an optical mix of different colors such as fluorescent grey in combination with black, fluorescent red, and light fluorescent green. Using pattern-like arrangements of stripes and bisecting darts, Palma Blank creates artworks that are full of energy. Depending on the angle of view and and the respective lighting, each artwork seems to formulate new ranges of colors.
In this article I have selected paintings from her recent body of work as well as examples of two earlier collections: ‘Fully Charged’ and ‘Spacial Forces’. Feel free and visit Palma Blank’s website to see more of her creative work.
