FF Meta Serif, excellent type design from German foundry FontFont.

FontFont’s Meta super family is probably familiar to some of you. With FF Meta Serif, I want to pick out another member of this exceptional font collective. The serif family was designed in 2007 by renowned German type designer Erik Spiekermann in collaboration with Christian Schwartz and Kris Sowersby. Ralph du Carrois and Botio Nikoltchev have completed the family with a range of additional extensions. Equipped with 12 weights plus matching italics and a huge set of advanced features, this beautiful serif typeface has been designed with today’s typographic needs in mind. The diverse weights range from a delicate Light up to a massive Black version. Read more below or click on the following link.

The complete family is available for purchase on MyFonts.

FF Meta Serif, a great type family for multipurpose!

FF Meta Serif is well suited for the use in a variety of applications such as branding and logo design, editorial and publishing, packaging and advertising, just to name a few. The family is not only a great choice for print media, you can also use it for web, mobile and other screen design projects.

At the beginning of my brief introduction I wrote “this typeface has been designed with today’s typographic needs in mind” and that’s totally true. The FF Meta Serif font family comes with an extended set of typographic features including alternate characters, ligatures, small capitals, case-sensitive forms, fractions, super and subscript characters, oldstyle and lining figures (each available in tabular and proportional widths). But that’s not all! The character set not only supports all Latin-based languages, it also includes an extensive set of characters for Greek and Cyrillic writing systems. FF Meta Sans is available as both ordinary desktop font as well as web font.
