Artwork of the 'puppy paintings' series, oil on linen, 2016.
Artwork of the ‘puppy paintings’ series by New York City based artist, Sebastian Black, created with oil on linen in 2016.

In 2016 he has worked on a series of acrylic paintings, which he calls Puppy Paintings. In his sense, a puppy painting is an artwork whose entire surface is organized by certain characteristics of a cartoon puppy’s face. However, the arrangement of these characteristics can take place in a very abstract way. The puppy and the painting is only limited by the rectangular dimensions of the canvas.

When looking at his body of work, you will notice the vast diversity of influences as well as Black’s different attempts to express his ideas. His paintings and sculptures range from simple geometric shapes in reduced colors up to bold experiments with diverse shapes and colors. Below you can find a few more examples of his paintings.
